Choose Goreme if you want landscape and daytime attractions in walking distance, quiet nights and a cooler summer, with highs near 30°C rather than Antalya's 35°C.

Where they differ
Antalya has 11 beaches nearby and seven months when the sea is 21°C or warmer; Goreme has neither sea nor beach. It also has many times as many places to drink and as many nightclubs, many times as many notable places within walking distance of the centre, and far more restaurants near the centre.
Goreme has many times as many tourist attractions close to the centre, though no theme parks against Antalya's 5, and one UNESCO-listed place within day-trip reach. Its restaurants cover a wider range of kitchens.
Where they are alike
Both are warm-summer, dry-summer places rather than year-round mild ones. August peaks at 35°C in Antalya and 30°C in Goreme, and in both the rain nearly stops in July and August, under 15mm in each.
Neither is a museum city: the two hold similar numbers of museums, and both have a modest share of protected land around them, 11% near Goreme and 8% near Antalya, so day trips lean on landscape rather than sights.
Which traveller are you?
Anyone whose holiday is built around swimming should take Antalya: 11 beaches nearby and sea at 21°C or more for seven months of the year, where Goreme has no coast at all.
Families split by taste. Goreme puts many more tourist attractions within walking distance of the centre, which suits short legs; Antalya answers with 5 theme parks and the beaches beside them.
Travellers there for the evenings want Antalya, with many times as many bars and clubs. Those after quiet nights, walking country and a UNESCO-listed place within day-trip reach are better placed in Goreme, where summer tops out near 30°C.
What the numbers don't tell you
The value figure is a national price level, identical for both by construction, so it carries no information about which trip costs less; the €100 a day beside it is one national estimate, not a measurement of either place.
Goreme's zeros for beaches and for sights near the centre are real, but they also reflect a small village measured against a large city: counts there will be low whatever is counted. And Antalya's beach season peaks when heat and crowds do, in August at 35°C, while its warm yearly picture hides 215-273mm in December and January.
When should you go?
The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.
Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Antalya: 1991-2020 normals, Antalya (23.4 km from centre). Goreme: 1991-2020 normals, Nevsehir (10.2 km from centre).
Antalya is at its best in May and June, when highs run 26-31°C, rainfall drops from 41mm to 8mm and the sea reaches 21-25°C. September and October work too, with the sea at 25-28°C. July and August are hot at 35°C, and December brings 273mm.
Goreme's window is June to September, 26-30°C with almost no rain, 7-15mm in July, August and September. January is 5°C and the month to avoid.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-08 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
