Where they differ
Dresden has more restaurants near the centre and a much wider range of kitchens, so a week of dinners varies more. What the numbers don't tell you
The daily budget figures, €163 and €160, are national price levels for restaurants and hotels in Germany and Austria rather than measurements of either city. A heavily visited city can sit well above its own country's average by more than the gap between these two, so nothing here says one trip costs more than the other.
In Salzburg the warmest weather is also the wettest: highs of 25°C arrive with monthly rain of 159-167mm, so the strongest months there still need indoor fallbacks. And the beach counts on both sides refer to inland water; neither city offers sea swimming at any point.
