The verdict

Choose Bled if you want a small, quiet place with warm summers, highs reaching 27°C, and 3 UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach, and you are content with few restaurants and almost nothing after dark.

Choose Nuremberg if you want a working city: many more places to eat, real nightlife, more museums, more for children, and drier weather through the year.

Where they differ

Bled runs the warmer year, with daytime highs of 1-27°C against Nuremberg's 4-25°C and more sunshine overall, and it sits within day-trip reach of 3 UNESCO-listed places against Nuremberg's 1.

Nuremberg is the fuller city: many times as many restaurants near the centre and a much wider range of kitchens, and many times as many bars and clubs, most of them central. For families it adds far more attractions near the centre, about three times as much park space and 2 theme parks within reach against Bled's 1.

Where they are alike

Neither city is a swimming destination. There are beaches nearby, 6 around Nuremberg and 3 around Bled, but neither has a month with sea at 21°C or more, so water is a sideline rather than a reason to book either trip.

The two also share a similar climate shape, summer highs of 25-27°C and winters near 1-4°C, protected countryside within reach of both, and national price estimates that are not far apart.

Which traveller are you?

Anyone travelling for food and evenings should take Nuremberg: many times as many restaurants near the centre, a much wider range of kitchens, and many times as many bars and clubs, most of them walkable.

Families are better served in Nuremberg too: 2 theme parks within reach against Bled's 1, more park space near the centre, and far more attractions close by.

Bled suits a quiet, scenic trip: a town of about 5000 people with 3 UNESCO-listed places in day-trip reach, summer highs of 27°C, and little going on after dark.

What the numbers don't tell you

The daily budget figures, €131 and €163, are national estimates of restaurant and hotel prices, not measurements of either city. A small resort town and a large city can each sit a long way from their country's average, and that gap can be wider than the one between the two national figures, so treat them as background rather than a price comparison.

Bled's warmest months are also its wettest, 108-139mm in July and August, so its best window and a dry one are not the same. And the beaches counted near both come without a sea.

When should you go?

The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.

Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Bled: 1991-2020 normals, Klagenfurt (35.5 km from centre). Nuremberg: 1991-2020 normals, Nuernberg (5.5 km from centre).

WorseBetter

Bled peaks from June to August, with highs of 25-27°C, but those are also its wettest months, 108-139mm in July and August. May and September stay warm with less rain.

Nuremberg's summer is a little cooler, 25°C, and clearly drier, 60-77mm in the same two months, and it holds four months of the year at 40mm or less. April and May, at 15-20°C, suit walking better than Bled's wetter spring. Winter suits neither, with highs near 1-4°C.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-08 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
