Where they differ
Bratislava puts roughly three times as many notable places within walking range of the centre, so a short stay needs less planning. Nights out are a wider field, with about twice the bars and clubs, most of them central. The country around it is greener: 14% protected against 6%, and more park space near the centre.
Salzburg is the smaller and quieter city, with fewer places to eat and drink; what it offers sits mainly outside the centre, in the UNESCO-listed sites and theme parks within day-trip reach.
Where they are alike
Neither is a swimming destination. Both have inland bathing spots rather than coast, and in neither does the water reach 21°C in any month, so plan around the city rather than around a beach day.

A capital and a heavily visited city can each sit well away from their own country's average, by more than the gap between the two figures, so treat them as background on the countries rather than as evidence that one trip costs more than the other.

Salzburg is warmest in July and August, also at 25°C, but those months carry 159-167mm of rain, far more than Bratislava sees then. If you go, April and October are the steadier bet, 15-16°C with 80-90mm, and February is the driest month at 47mm, though it only reaches 6°C.
