Where they differ

Where they are alike

What the numbers don't tell you
The daily budget figures, €248 for Switzerland and €163 for Germany, are national price levels for restaurants and hotels rather than measurements of either city. A capital or a heavily visited city can sit well away from its own country's average, by more than the gap between these two figures, so neither tells you what a stay in Geneva or Munich costs.
Munich's warmest months are also its wettest, at 107-121mm, while Geneva's summer stays drier and its heaviest rain comes in autumn. And Geneva's 43 beaches are lake beaches, usable only in the warm weeks rather than year-round.

Geneva is the stronger summer choice. June to August brings highs of 24-27°C with 77-81mm of rain, while Munich over the same months is cooler and much wetter, at 107-121mm.
Munich reads better either side of that. September and October are drier there, 78mm and 67mm against Geneva's 87mm and 94mm, and its winter months carry less rain as well, though highs sit at 4-6°C and neither city gives you much reason to come then.
