The verdict
Choose Monaco if the sea is the point: 50 beaches nearby and a summer sea warm enough to swim in from June to September, with the notable sights packed close together in a small place.
Choose Verona if you are travelling with children or want evenings out: more attractions and parkland near the centre, more places to drink, and more heritage within day-trip reach.

Where they differ
Monaco is the swimming trip: 50 beaches within reach against Verona's 2, and four months when the sea sits at 21°C or more, which Verona has none of. More of the surrounding land is protected as well, 24% against 9%, which shapes what a day out of town looks like.
Verona is the better base with children: far more tourist attractions and park space near the centre, and 4 theme parks within reach against Monaco's 3. Evenings are livelier too, with many times as many places to drink.
Where they are alike
Eating out is where the two come closest. Verona has about twice as many restaurants near the centre, while Monaco covers a wider range of kitchens, so either way you have a full choice within walking distance of where you stay.
Both are warm-summer, mild-winter places: Verona's highs run 7-30°C across the year, Monaco's 13-28°C. Both keep their notable places clustered around the centre and walkable, though Monaco packs in more.
Which traveller are you?
A swimmer or beach-first traveller should take Monaco: 50 beaches nearby against Verona's 2, and a sea at 21°C or more for four months, which Verona cannot offer at any point in the year.
Families are better served in Verona, with far more attractions and park space near the centre, plus 4 theme parks within reach against Monaco's 3, and museums sitting tightly around the centre for poor weather.
A short-break walker suits Monaco: about twice as many notable places within walking distance of the centre, and a far larger share of protected land around it if you want a day out on foot.
What the numbers don't tell you
No cost comparison is possible here. The data carries a daily budget for Verona, about €155, and nothing equivalent for Monaco, so the value ranking rests on a different measure and should not be read as a price. Nothing in these figures tells you what a day in Monaco costs.
Monaco's weather standing is carried by its summer. October and November bring 124-138mm of rain, wetter than any month in Verona. Verona's family strengths are largely outdoor ones, and they are met in July and August at 30°C, when shade matters more than the number of parks.
When should you go?
The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.
Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Monaco: 1991-2020 normals, Nice (19.9 km from centre). Verona: 1991-2020 normals, Verona / Villafranca (11.6 km from centre).
Monaco peaks in July and August: highs of 28°C, sea at 24-25°C and only 13-18mm of rain. September still swims at 22°C, but autumn turns wet, with 124mm in October and 138mm in November.
Verona is best in late spring and early autumn: May and June, with highs of 24-28°C, and again in September at 25°C, though that month brings 85mm of rain. Its summer peak is hotter than Monaco's but wetter. Winter is the clear gap: January highs of 7°C against Monaco's 13°C.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-08 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
