The verdict
Choose Nice if the sea is the point: 70 beaches nearby, water warm enough for swimming through late summer, and protected countryside within day-trip reach.
Choose Turin if you would rather spend days in museums and evenings out, or if you are travelling with children who need attractions near the centre; January highs near 7°C make it an indoor-leaning winter city.

Where they differ
Nice is the one with a swimming coast: dozens of beaches along it, while Turin has a single one and no warm sea season. The countryside also differs, with 24% of the land around Nice protected against 6% around Turin, so day trips out of Nice have more to aim at.
Turin suits families better close in, with many times more attractions near the centre and somewhat more park space, though the swimming and the theme parks are on Nice's side.
Where they are alike
Eating out is much the same proposition in both: a comparable number of restaurants near the centre, with Nice drawing on a slightly wider range of kitchens. In either city you can eat well without planning around it.
Both also reward walking, with their notable places gathered close to the centre rather than spread out, though Turin fits more into that area. The national price estimates behind the two countries sit close together too.
Which traveller are you?
Swimmers and sun-seekers should take Nice: 70 beaches nearby and sea at 21°C or above for four months of the year. The swimming season is the whole reason to go, and Turin offers nothing comparable.
Museum-goers and people who want long evenings out will get more from Turin, with roughly twice as many museums, grouped tightly around the centre, 4 UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach against 2, and far more places to drink.
Families are split. Turin has many more attractions near the centre and more park space close in; Nice has 3 theme parks within reach and the sea, but less within walking distance.
What the numbers don't tell you
The daily budget figures, €160 and €155, are national estimates of restaurant and hotel price levels, not measurements of either city. A much visited city can sit well above its own national average, by more than the gap between these two figures, so neither number tells you what your trip will cost.
Sunshine hours are recorded for Nice but missing for Turin, where no nearby station reports them, so that side of the weather comparison is unmeasured and Turin's monthly picture rests on temperature and rainfall alone. Note too that Nice's driest, warmest months are also the ones most people book.
When should you go?
The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.
Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Nice: 1991-2020 normals, Nice (8 km from centre). Turin: 1991-2020 normals, Torino / Caselle (15.4 km from centre).
Nice suits July and August, with 28°C days, sea warm enough to swim and just 13-18mm of rain. Late autumn is the wettest stretch of its year and the one to avoid, while winter stays mild if damp.
Turin's window is June to September, warmest in July at 29°C, though spring and autumn there bring heavier rain than Nice sees in the same months. January highs near 7°C keep a winter visit indoors.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-08 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
