Where they differ

Nice has 70 beaches nearby against Verona's 2, and four months with the sea at 21°C or more, where Verona has none. It also has about three times as many restaurants near the centre, and a much wider range of kitchens.

Verona is the stronger choice with children: many times as many tourist attractions near the centre as Nice, and 4 theme parks within reach against Nice's 3. Park space near the centre is much the same in both.

Where they are alike

Nightlife works similarly in both: a comparable number of places to drink, most of them near the centre, though Nice has about three times as many nightclubs.

Both are walkable at the core, with notable places clustered close together, Verona's somewhat more tightly. On cost, the national price levels behind them are close, at €160 for France and €155 for Italy, so neither country sets a very different starting budget.

Which traveller are you?

Anyone whose trip revolves around swimming should go to Nice: 70 beaches nearby and four months with the sea at 21°C or more, which Verona cannot match.

Families are better served in Verona, which has many times as many tourist attractions near the centre, theme parks within reach, and a compact core that is easy to cross with children.

Someone who plans days around eating and walking will prefer Nice, with about three times as many restaurants near the centre, a wider range of kitchens, and a much larger share of protected land within day-trip reach.

What the numbers don't tell you

The daily budget is a national estimate of restaurant and hotel price levels, €160 for France and €155 for Italy, not a measurement of Nice or Verona. Either city can sit well away from its country's average, so a gap that small says nothing about which trip will cost more.

Nice's beach and weather strengths land in July and August, the months everyone else also travels, and its driest months are exactly those. Verona reaches 30°C in the same weeks with no sea to cool off in and rain spread through summer.

When should you go?

The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.

Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Nice: 1991-2020 normals, Nice (8 km from centre). Verona: 1991-2020 normals, Verona / Villafranca (11.6 km from centre).

WorseBetter

If swimming is the point of the trip, Nice peaks in high summer, with highs of 28°C, sea at 24-25°C and 13-18mm of rain across July and August. Autumn is the drawback: 124mm in October and more again in November.

Verona is better in late spring, when highs reach 24-28°C in May and June. September still reaches 25°C but is its wettest month, at 85mm. January, at 7°C, is a different trip altogether.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-08 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
