The verdict

Choose Barcelona if you want the coast and the range that comes with a big city: 20 beaches nearby, sea warm enough to swim for three months, and far more places to eat and drink.

Choose Cordoba if you are happy inland, want a small centre you can cross on foot with its museums grouped close together, and can handle summer highs near 37°C.

Where they differ

Barcelona's advantage starts at the water: 20 beaches nearby and three months of sea at 21°C or above, peaking at 25°C in August. It also has many times as many restaurants, a wider range of kitchens, and far more bars and clubs, most of them walkable.

Cordoba runs hotter and sunnier, daytime highs of 15-37°C across the year against Barcelona's 14-29°C. Its museums sit more tightly around the centre, and it has about twice as much park space near the middle as Barcelona.

Where they are alike

The two are closest on family travel. Both have a similar number of tourist attractions near the centre; Cordoba adds about twice as much park space in the middle, while Barcelona has 3 theme parks within reach.

Winters are mild in both, with coolest highs of 14°C in Barcelona and 15°C in Cordoba, and both get plenty of sun through the year. They also carry the same national price level, which says nothing about how the two differ.

Which traveller are you?

Anyone whose trip is built around swimming should take Barcelona. Cordoba is inland with no beaches at all, while Barcelona has 20 nearby and sea at 25°C in August.

A traveller after heritage at a slower pace is better served by Cordoba: its museums sit tightly around the centre, it has 2 UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach, and more park space in the middle of town.

For eating out and late nights, Barcelona is the clear pick: many times as many restaurants, bars and clubs as Cordoba, a wider range of kitchens, and most of it near the centre.

What the numbers don't tell you

The value comparison between these two carries no information: the figure is a national price level and is identical for both by construction, not a measurement of either city. The €122 a day beside it is the same national estimate, so treat it as a rough country figure rather than a trait of Barcelona or Cordoba.

Barcelona rates highest in July and August, which is also when its beaches are busiest; September and October keep the sea warm but turn wet, over 80mm each. Cordoba's driest, sunniest months are its hottest, at 37°C.

When should you go?

The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-08 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
