The verdict
Choose Cordoba if you want the warmer city, with July highs near 37°C, green space within walking distance of the centre, and two UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach.
Choose Granada if eating out matters, with a much wider range of kitchens, if you want more choice after dark, and if you plan days out into protected country, which covers a large share of the land around the city.

Where they differ
Cordoba's strengths are closer to hand: about twice as much park space near the centre as Granada, and 2 UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach against Granada's 1. The two have about as many attractions near the centre, so the difference is the open ground between them.
Granada is the better base for getting out of town, with 27% of the surrounding land protected against 6% around Cordoba. It also has a much wider range of kitchens and about three times as many nightclubs, most of them central.
Where they are alike
Both centres are compact in the same way: each has about as many notable places within walking distance, so a day on foot needs no transport planning either way.
Their museum holdings are close too, and both are inland: neither has a beach nearby, and neither sees a month of sea at 21°C or more, so swimming is not part of either trip. Sunshine is near-identical, close to 3,000 hours a year in each.
Which traveller are you?
If you plan your days around eating and going out afterwards, Granada is the clearer choice: a much wider range of kitchens near the centre, more places to drink, and about three times as many nightclubs, nearly all central.
Travelling with children, Cordoba has about twice as much park space near the centre and a similar number of attractions to Granada, so more of a day can be spent outdoors on foot. Neither has a theme park.
For walking and days out of the city, Granada is surrounded by far more protected land, 27% against 6%, while Cordoba answers with 2 UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach against Granada's 1.
What the numbers don't tell you
The value figures here are the same for both by construction: they reflect a national price level rather than either city, so that comparison carries no information about Cordoba against Granada. The €122 daily budget sitting beside it is one national estimate, not a measurement of either place.
A city that runs warm across the year still has a summer at 35-37°C with almost no rain, and neither has a beach or a sea to cool off in. Cordoba's mildest autumn weather also arrives with its wettest months: October through December each bring 79mm or more.
When should you go?
The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.
Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Cordoba: 1991-2020 normals, Cordoba / Aeropuerto (7.6 km from centre). Granada: 1991-2020 normals, Granada / Caserío Hospicio (5 km from centre).
Cordoba is at its best in April and May, at 24-28°C with 43-54mm of rain. October still reaches 26°C but brings 79mm, and November and December are wetter still. Midsummer sits at 37°C, too hot for walking far.
Granada's window is wider and drier: May at 25°C with 29mm, and September at 29°C with 28mm. More of its months stay at or under 40mm than Cordoba's, so a warm month there is less likely to be a wet one. Winter runs slightly cooler.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-09 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
