Where they differ
Granada is the better base for landscape: 27% of the land around it is protected against 7% around Malaga, and it has about twice as many notable places within walking distance of the centre. Its year swings wider, with highs of 13-35°C against Malaga's 17-32°C, and more dry months.
Malaga answers with the coast: 21 beaches nearby where Granada has none, and sea warm enough to swim in through late summer, reaching 23°C in August. It also has more park space near the centre and somewhat more museums.
Where they are alike
Eating out is the closest call. Both cities have a similar number of restaurants near the centre and a similar spread of kitchens, so neither will feel short of choice at dinner.
Nights out are much the same: comparable numbers of bars and clubs in both, most of them near the centre. Museum-going is close, with Malaga a little ahead and each within day-trip reach of one UNESCO-listed place. Neither has a theme park within reach for families.

What the numbers don't tell you
The value figure here is a national price level applied to both, identical by construction, so it says nothing about which of these two cities costs more. The €122 daily budget beside it is one national estimate, not a measurement of Granada or Malaga.
Malaga's beach advantage is real but seasonal: the sea reaches 21°C or more for only three months, and those are the months everyone else comes. Granada's warmer, drier year is partly built on a July at 35°C, when the driest weather and the least comfortable weather are the same thing.
When should you go?

Granada is best in May, warm at 25°C with only 29mm of rain, and again in September, when highs sit at 29°C after a dry summer. July at 35°C is punishing unless you like real heat.
Malaga's window is longer, May to June and on into September, with 29°C in June and the sea at 22°C in September. It is the wetter city in winter, 88mm in December against Granada's 44mm, so late autumn favours Granada.
