Where they differ
Bled has 3 beaches nearby where Florence has none, 20% of the surrounding land is protected against 9% around Florence, and it has 1 theme park within reach where Florence has none.
Florence has many times as many museums, grouped tightly around the centre, and 4 UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach against Bled's 3. Far more notable places sit within walking distance, restaurants near the centre are many times more numerous and cover a wider range of kitchens, and bars and clubs likewise, most of them central.
Where they are alike
Neither is a place to swim. Florence has no beaches at all, Bled's 3 are the whole of the offer, and neither has a month with sea at 21°C or more.
Both also have green space within reach, in different forms: protected countryside around Bled, park space near the centre in Florence. And the two national daily budget estimates, €131 for Bled's country and €155 for Florence's, are not far apart.
Which traveller are you?
Museum-first travellers should take Florence: many times as many museums as Bled, grouped tightly near the centre, most notable places within walking distance of one another, and 4 UNESCO-listed sites within day-trip reach.
Walkers who want quiet will prefer Bled, with 20% of the surrounding land protected and 3 beaches nearby, though its warmest months, at 25-27°C, are also its wettest.
Families are split. Florence has far more attractions and park space near the centre, and much more choice for eating out; Bled has the one theme park within reach and far quieter evenings.
What the numbers don't tell you
The daily budget figures, €131 and €155, are national price levels for restaurants and hotels, not measurements of either city. A heavily visited city can sit well above its own country average, and that gap can exceed the gap between the two countries, so these figures cannot tell you which trip costs more.
The warm months and the dry months do not line up. Bled's warmest months are also its wettest, 127-139mm, so summer outdoors is wetter than the temperature suggests. Florence's driest months are its hottest, 32-33°C, and that is when its compact centre is busiest.
When should you go?
The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.
Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Bled: 1991-2020 normals, Klagenfurt (35.5 km from centre). Florence: 1995-2020 (sunshine 1991-2020, rainfall 1991-2020) normals, Firenze / Peretola (5.6 km from centre).
Bled is at its best from June to August, when highs reach 25-27°C, but those are also its wettest months, at 108-139mm. May is much drier, at 86mm, and still warm enough for long days outside.
Florence is best in May and June, with highs of 24-29°C and modest rain. July and August are hotter, 32-33°C, and the driest months of the year. September and October turn wet, 102-125mm. Winter stays mild, around 11°C.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-09 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
