Where they differ

Bled's advantage is quiet and scale: a town of roughly 5,000 people, with its few bars and restaurants near the centre, more annual sunshine than Milan, and 2 months at 40mm of rain or less where Milan has none.

Milan has many times as many places to drink and nightclubs, many times as many notable places within walking distance of the centre, and far more for children: 5 theme parks against Bled's 1, plus much more park space near the centre.

Where they are alike

Neither is a swimming destination. Both have a few beaches within reach, but neither records a month with sea at 21°C or more, so water is incidental to a trip to either.

The daily budget is a national price level for restaurants and hotels, €131 for Bled's country and €155 for Milan's, not a measurement of either place. A big city and a small, heavily visited lake town can each sit far from their national average, by more than the gap between these two figures.

Bled's strongest summer months are also its wettest, climbing to 139mm, so the months that look best on paper are not the driest ones. And both list beaches nearby while neither has a month of sea warm enough for comfortable swimming.

Bled's window is June to August, with highs of 25-27°C, but that is also its wettest stretch, reaching 139mm at the peak. May and September, near 21°C, are easier for walking and carry less rain. Winter is cold and quiet.

Milan's summer peak is drier: July brings 29°C on 57mm, so a summer trip there is less likely to be rained on. The trade-off comes later, with 113-127mm falling monthly from September to November, when Bled is drying out.
