Where they differ

Capitals and heavily visited cities can sit well away from their own national average, by more than the gap between these two figures, so treat the two as level on cost until you price actual rooms.
The beach count misleads too: Bratislava's 36 nearby beaches sit against a swimming picture neither city supports. And the summer months that rate best in both are also among the wettest, so peak season here means warmth rather than dry days.

Ljubljana is at its best in July and August, marginally the warmer of the two, though those months bring 121-124mm of rain. Autumn is the difference: 159mm in September and 150mm in October make it much the wetter city, so outside high summer choose late spring, around 22°C in May.
