Where they differ

Brussels has about three times as many museums as The Hague and 10 UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach against 4, plus more notable places within walking distance of the centre. Its drinking and clubbing options are several times larger and mostly close to the centre, where in The Hague only about half are.

The Hague has 34 beaches nearby where Brussels has none, about twice as much park space near the centre, and 8% of the surrounding land protected against 6%.

Where they are alike

Families are served about equally well, by different means: Brussels concentrates tourist attractions near the centre, while The Hague counters with more park space and more theme parks within reach.

What the numbers don't tell you

The daily budget is one national estimate per country, €180 and €181, covering restaurant and hotel price levels rather than either city. Capitals and heavily visited cities can sit further from their own national average than these two figures sit from each other, so the near-identical numbers say nothing about which trip costs more.

The Hague's beaches come with a short swimming window: the sea reaches 19°C only in August and never 21°C, and the warmest months are also among the wettest in both cities, so beach weather is not guaranteed.
