Where they differ
Cork's advantage is what lies outside it: it rates better for nature and day trips, and the sea is 3km from the centre against 27km for Manchester. It also has slightly more tourist attractions close to the middle of town.
Manchester has many times more notable places within walking distance of its centre, about three times as many restaurants and about three times as many places to drink, far more nightclubs, and roughly twice as many museums, plus two UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach where Cork has none.
Where they are alike
Swimming is a limited proposition in both. Neither sea reaches 21°C in any month, peaking at 16-17°C in August, so a swim is brief rather than a reason to book.
They are close on weather, on suitability for families and on the measure behind their value ratings. Highs run 8-19°C in Cork and 7-21°C in Manchester, neither is an obvious choice for children, and no month in either falls to 40mm or less.
Which traveller are you?
Anyone whose evenings matter should pick Manchester, with about three times as many places to drink and to eat near the centre as Cork, and many more nightclubs, most of them in the same walkable core.
Walkers and day-trippers will do better from Cork, which rates higher for nature and day trips, and where the sea is 3km from the centre rather than 27km, so the coast is an afternoon, not an expedition.
Families will find neither outstanding, but Manchester has two theme parks within reach and more park space near the centre, while Cork puts slightly more tourist attractions within walking distance of town.
What the numbers don't tell you
No cost comparison is possible here. The dataset carries a daily budget for Cork, about €187 a day, and none at all for Manchester, so nothing in it supports calling either the cheaper trip. The value ratings rest on a different measure both cities do have, and should not be read as a verdict on price.
The two also come out level on beaches for opposite reasons. Cork's sea is 3km from the centre but there is little beach to speak of, while Manchester has more of them, at 27km. Neither sea reaches 21°C, so the match hides two different compromises rather than a shared strength.
When should you go?

Manchester has the longer window, roughly May to August, with highs of 17-21°C and rain of 59-73mm. It is drier than Cork in every month, and its wettest, October at 95mm, is far below Cork's in the same month.
