Dublin has many times as many restaurants near the centre and a much wider range of kitchens. It has many times as many places to drink, plus nightclubs where Killarney has none. It also packs many times as many notable places within walking distance of the centre.

Killarney's edge is narrow and mostly climatic: winter days near 10°C against Dublin's 8°C, and an August sea of 16°C rather than 15°C. What it really offers is scale, a town of 14,400 against 593,000, and correspondingly little around you.

The value comparison between these two carries no information. The price level is national, identical for both by construction, and the daily budget of €187 sitting beside it is a country-wide estimate rather than a measurement of either place. Neither can be called the cheaper choice on this evidence.

Dublin's beach standing rests on 11 beaches and sea 3km from the centre, but no month reaches 21°C in the water, so swimming stays a short business. And the counts behind these axes are taken near a centre, which favours the larger city and says little about what a small town is like to spend a week in.
