Where they differ
Frankfurt is the better base for getting out of the city: 28% of the land around it is protected against 16% around London, and there is more park space near the centre.
London has many times as many bars and clubs, though only about half of them sit near the centre, where Frankfurt's are concentrated in one area. It also has many times as many notable places within walking distance of the centre, so a day of sightseeing on foot covers far more ground.
Where they are alike
Neither city works for swimming. London has more beaches within reach, but neither has a month of sea at 21°C or more, so the coast means cool water rather than a swim.
Climate and heritage are close too. Frankfurt runs 5-26°C across the year against London's 8-24°C, and each has a single month at 40mm of rain or less. Both put 4 UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach, with London holding more museums and Frankfurt keeping its own tightly grouped.
Which traveller are you?
Anyone building a trip around dinners and late nights should take London: many times more places to drink and dance than Frankfurt, and a wider range of kitchens near the centre.
Families are pulled both ways. London has about twice as many attractions near the centre and 3 theme parks within reach against Frankfurt's 2; Frankfurt answers with more park space and shorter distances.
Walkers and day-trippers are better served in Frankfurt, where 28% of the surrounding land is protected against 16% around London, and summers reaching 26°C make time outdoors easier.
What the numbers don't tell you
There is no daily budget figure for London in this data, only for Frankfurt, at about €163 a day. No price comparison between the two is possible here, in either direction, and the value ranking rests on a different measure, not on what a day actually costs.
Beach counts flatter London: 47 beaches within reach against Frankfurt's 4, yet neither city has a month with sea at 21°C or more, so those are places to walk rather than swim. Frankfurt's warmest months are also its wettest, so peak summer trades heat against rain.
When should you go?
The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.
Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Frankfurt: 1991-2020 normals, Frankfurt Westend (2 km from centre). London: 1991-2020 normals, London Heathrow Airport (22.5 km from centre).
Frankfurt is the warmer pick from May to September, with highs reaching 26°C, though its summer is also the wetter of the two, near 60-68mm a month. March and April are drier, at 38-41mm, and already warmer than London.
London holds up better at either end of the year: January highs of 8°C against Frankfurt's 5°C. Its high summer is the drier one, about 46mm in July, while late autumn is its wettest, at 64-67mm.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-09 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
