Where they differ

Geneva's advantage is what surrounds it. 27% of the land around the city is protected against 6% around Turin, there is far more park space near the centre, and 2 theme parks lie within reach where Turin has none.

Turin's advantage sits inside it: about twice as many museums, held tightly around the centre, and 4 UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach against Geneva's 2. It also has many more places to drink. The national daily budget estimate is €155 in Italy against €248 in Switzerland.

Where they are alike

The two keep a similar number of notable places within walking distance of the centre, so a day on foot covers comparable ground in either city.

Weather is close, Turin a little warmer across the year at 7-29°C against Geneva's 5-27°C, and neither has a month under 40mm. Both have plenty of restaurants near the centre, Turin somewhat more, Geneva a wider range of kitchens. Neither is a place to swim: no month brings water to 21°C.

Which traveller are you?

Families with young children: Geneva. Far more park space near the centre, 2 theme parks within reach where Turin has none, and lake beaches for a warm afternoon, though none of it makes a swimming holiday.

A museum-led city break points to Turin: about twice as many museums, held tightly enough around the centre to cover several in a day, and 4 UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach against Geneva's 2.

For late nights and eating out, Turin has many more places to drink, though about half sit away from the centre; Geneva keeps its nightclubs central and covers a wider range of kitchens.

What the numbers don't tell you

The daily budget figures, €248 for Switzerland and €155 for Italy, are national estimates of restaurant and hotel prices, not measurements of either city. A heavily visited city can sit far from its country's average, by more than the gap between the two figures, so they cannot tell you which city costs more.

No weather station near Turin records sunshine hours, so that series is missing rather than low, and its monthly picture rests on temperature and rainfall alone. Geneva's 43 nearby beaches are a count, not a season: no month brings water to 21°C, so they suit a hot afternoon rather than a trip built around swimming.

When should you go?

The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.

Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Geneva: 1991-2020 normals, Geneve-Cointrin (5.7 km from centre). Turin: 1991-2020 normals, Torino / Caselle (15.4 km from centre).

WorseBetter

Turin runs warmer and drier in spring, 14-18°C in March and April. July is its best summer month, 29°C and, at 57mm, the driest of the three.

Geneva is cooler in high summer, 24-27°C, with rain holding near 80mm. Its advantage comes in autumn, when Turin turns much wetter: 87-94mm from September to November against 113-127mm, though Geneva's highs fall to 9°C by the end of that run.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-08 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
