Where they differ

Milan has many times as many notable places within walking distance of the centre, so days need less transport. It holds about twice as many museums, grouped tightly around the middle, and 4 UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach against Nuremberg's 1. Its bar and club scene is far larger, with roughly double the nightclubs.

Nuremberg's smaller night-time offering sits mostly near the centre, so little of it needs a taxi. The land around it is more protected, 42% against 30%, and its kitchens cover a wider range.

Where they are alike

Neither is a swimming destination. Both have a few beaches within reach, 6 near Nuremberg and 4 near Milan, but neither has a month of sea at 21°C or more.

What the numbers don't tell you

The daily budget figures are national estimates, €155 for Italy against €163 for Germany, price levels for restaurants and hotels rather than measurements of either city. A large or heavily visited city can sit well above its own country's average, by more than the gap between these two, so neither figure says which trip will cost you more.

Warmer is not drier. Milan runs above Nuremberg all year, but it has no month at 40mm or less where Nuremberg has several, and its heaviest rain lands on months that otherwise read well. Both list beaches nearby, yet neither has a month of sea at 21°C or more.
