Where they differ

Sarajevo packs about three times as many notable places into walking distance of the centre, so days need less planning and less transport. It also has roughly twice as many tourist attractions near the centre and more park space, though neither city has a theme park within reach.

Split has 87 beaches nearby where Sarajevo has none, and sea at 21°C or warmer for four months. Its surroundings are more protected, 9% of the land against 2%, which gives day trips out of town more to aim at.

Where they are alike

Eating out is similar in both. Split has somewhat more restaurants near the centre, but the range of kitchens is comparable, so neither offers a wider choice of cooking.

What the numbers don't tell you

No daily cost figure exists for Sarajevo in this data, so the two cannot be compared on price at all. The value readings rest on a different measure that both cities share, and none of it tells you what a day in Sarajevo actually costs.

Split's beach strength describes July and August, when the sea is warmest at 25°C and days reach 31°C. That is also when the coast is at its busiest, and nothing here counts crowds. Sarajevo's rain never falls below 66mm in any month, so its warm summer is not a dry one.
