Where they differ
Dubrovnik has the coast to itself: 43 beaches within reach against none at Sarajevo, and five months when the sea sits at 21°C or above. Its nightlife leans towards clubs, of which it has somewhat more.
Sarajevo is the denser city on foot, with roughly three times as many notable places within walking distance of the centre and about three times as many places to drink, most of them central. It also has about twice as many museums, and far more park space near the middle.
Where they are alike
Eating out is the clearest common ground: the two have a similar number of restaurants near the centre and a comparable range of kitchens, so neither wins on choice.
Heritage is close too, in different forms: Sarajevo has more museums, Dubrovnik more UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach, 3 against 1. Their weather lands in a similar place as well, peaking near 29°C and 28°C in the same month, with January the coolest in both and no month below 40mm.

Anyone who travels for walkable cities and museums should take Sarajevo. Notable places cluster tightly around its centre, it has about twice as many museums, and about three times as many places to drink.
Families with young children get more day-to-day room in Sarajevo, with more attractions near the centre and far more park space. Dubrovnik answers with the beaches and the one theme park within reach.
What the numbers don't tell you
No like-for-like cost comparison is possible here. The data carries a daily budget for Dubrovnik, about €138, and nothing equivalent for Sarajevo, so nothing here says which is cheaper. Read the value axis as measuring something other than price.
Dubrovnik's beach strength is concentrated: the five swimmable months are also the months everyone else arrives, in a town of 41,600 residents. Its annual sunshine total hides an autumn where rain runs near 200mm a month, so the yearly average flatters the shoulder seasons.

Sarajevo is at its best in July and August, with highs near 28°C and drier air than its own spring. Rain is spread through the year rather than piled into one season, so there is no washout month, but January highs of 4°C rule winter out for most.
