The verdict
Choose Alicante if the sea is the point of the trip: 33 beaches within reach, water warm enough to swim in well past summer, and a drier pattern month to month.
Choose Seville if you would rather walk between museums, monuments and restaurants, with far more packed around the centre and more to occupy children, and you can work around a summer that reaches 36°C.

Where they differ
Alicante is the swimming city: 33 beaches nearby against Seville's 2, and sea at 21°C or more for five months of the year, which Seville has in no month at all. Most months there bring 40mm of rain or less.
Seville packs far more notable places within walking distance of the centre, about three times as many museums and roughly twice as many restaurants near the middle. For families there are more attractions and park space close in, and 2 theme parks within reach against Alicante's 1.
Where they are alike
Eating out is where the two are hardest to separate. Seville has about twice as many restaurants near the centre, Alicante a somewhat wider range of kitchens: density set against variety.
Days out of town are limited in similar measure, with 8% of the land around Seville protected against 7% around Alicante. Nightlife runs close too: Seville has more places to drink, but the two have a similar number of nightclubs, and in both they sit near the centre.
Which traveller are you?
If you are travelling to swim, Alicante is the only real option of the two: 33 beaches nearby and sea at 21°C or more for five months, against a city with almost no coast.
If you want museums and monuments on foot, take Seville. It has around three times as many museums and far more notable places within walking distance of the centre, so days need little planning.
Families lean towards Seville, with more attractions and park space near the centre and 2 theme parks within reach against Alicante's 1, unless beach days are the whole reason for going.
What the numbers don't tell you
The value comparison between these two carries no information. It rests on a national price level, identical for both by construction, and the €122 a day beside it is one national estimate rather than a measurement of either city. Neither can be called the cheaper trip on this evidence.
A warm year is not a comfortable one throughout. Seville reaches 36°C in July and August, and its wettest stretch runs from October to December. Alicante's coast is seasonal too, with sea at 14-16°C from December to April, when its 33 beaches are for walking rather than swimming.
When should you go?
The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.
Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Alicante: 1991-2020 normals, Alicante (2.8 km from centre). Seville: 1991-2020 normals, Sevilla / San Pablo (8.1 km from centre).
Alicante is at its best in May and June, with highs of 24-28°C, only 8mm of rain in June and the sea past 22°C. Late summer stays swimmable, reaching 26°C in August, though September brings 52mm. October still holds 25°C.
Seville works best in April and May, at 24-28°C, before the heat arrives: July and August reach 36°C. Its autumn and early winter are the wet half of the year, at 72-78mm from October through December.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-08 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
