The verdict
Choose Barcelona if the sea matters: 20 beaches nearby, water warm enough to swim in during high summer, the wider choice of restaurants and much more going on after dark.
Choose Seville if you want warmth rather than water: hotter days through spring and autumn, more park space near the centre, and a peak season in April and May, before Barcelona's.

Where they differ
Barcelona has 20 beaches nearby against Seville's 2, and three months of sea at 21°C or more where Seville has none. It has about three times as many restaurants near the centre and a wider range of kitchens, roughly twice as many places to drink, and far more nightclubs.
Seville runs warmer, with daytime highs of 16-36°C across the year against Barcelona's 14-29°C, and about twice as much park space near the centre. Its summers are also much drier than Barcelona's.
Where they are alike
The two are equally suited to families, by different means: Barcelona has somewhat more tourist attractions near the centre and 3 theme parks within reach against Seville's 2, while Seville has about twice as much park space nearby.
Their weather works year-round in similar ways: both have 5 months at 40mm of rain or less, and winter highs of 14-16°C keep off-season visits workable. Museums are nearer in kind: Barcelona holds more, but Seville's cluster tightly around the centre.
Which traveller are you?
Anyone whose trip revolves around swimming should take Barcelona: 20 beaches nearby and three months of sea at 21°C or more, against Seville's 2 beaches and no warm-water season at all.
Eating and going out point the same way. Barcelona has about three times as many restaurants near the centre, a wider spread of kitchens, twice as many places to drink and far more clubs.
Families can go either way. Barcelona offers more attractions near the centre and an extra theme park, while Seville counters with roughly twice as much park space, though its 36°C summers limit midday time outdoors.
What the numbers don't tell you
The value comparison between these two carries no information: it is a national price level, identical for both by construction, and the €122 daily budget beside it is one national estimate rather than a measurement of either city. Neither is the cheaper trip on this evidence.
Elsewhere, strong figures hide their costs. Seville's summer is almost rainless, at 1-3mm, but 36°C limits what you can do from late morning to evening. Barcelona's warm, dry midsummer is also when its beaches are busiest, and its mild autumn carries 82-83mm of rain, so a warm month there is not a dry one.
When should you go?
The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.
Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Barcelona: 1991-2020 normals, Barcelona / Aeropuerto (14.4 km from centre). Seville: 1991-2020 normals, Sevilla / San Pablo (8.1 km from centre).
Barcelona is the better pick in June and July: highs of 26-28°C, 27mm of rain in each month, and sea warm enough to swim in through late summer. September and October stay mild but turn wet, at 82-83mm.
Seville is at its best in April and May, at 24-28°C with rain down to 33mm by May. Midsummer is near rainless but reaches 36°C, which rules out much daytime walking; autumn is the gentler second window.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-08 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
