The verdict
Choose Bath for countryside walking, a good share of protected land nearby and museums clustered in a small centre. Its window is July to September, when it stays drier than The Hague.
Choose The Hague if you want the sea 3km away, a much wider range of restaurants, more museums and more to see on foot.

Where they differ
Bath is the better base for leaving town: 28% of the land around it is protected against 8% around The Hague. Its museums sit tightly around the centre, and it has somewhat more tourist attractions there.
The Hague puts the sea 3km from its centre against 29km from Bath, with 34 beaches nearby against Bath's one. It has about three times as many restaurants near the centre and a wider range of kitchens, plus about three times as many notable places within walking distance.
Where they are alike
The weather is near identical. Both run daytime highs of about 7-21°C across the year, and neither gets a month at 40mm of rain or less, so rain is possible whenever you go.
Neither is a late-night city: bars and clubs are limited in both, and Bath's sit near the centre while about half of The Hague's do. Both also put green space and day trips within easy reach, countryside in one case, parks in the other.
Which traveller are you?
If your break is built around walking out into open country, Bath fits: 28% of the land around the city is protected, and its museums and attractions are close enough together to fill a wet afternoon on foot.
Families with young children are better served in The Hague: 7 theme parks within reach against Bath's 1, about three times as much park space near the centre, and the beach 3km away.
For a trip about eating and museums, The Hague again: about three times as many restaurants near the centre, a wider range of kitchens, and roughly twice as many museums, though Bath's are more tightly grouped.
What the numbers don't tell you
The Hague's beach advantage is about access, not swimming conditions. The sea never reaches 21°C in any month here, and the warmest water, 19°C in August, falls in one of the wettest months, near 84mm. A short walk to the beach and a comfortable swim are not the same thing.
No cost comparison is possible here. The dataset gives a daily budget for The Hague, €181, and none for Bath, so nothing on this page says which is the cheaper trip. The value figures rest on a different measure that both cities have, so do not read them as prices.
When should you go?
The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.
Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Bath: 1991-2020 normals, Lyneham (29.2 km from centre). The Hague: 1991-2020 normals, Valkenburg (13.6 km from centre).
Bath is the stronger pick from June to September. July and August reach 21°C with 61mm and 66mm of rain, less than The Hague sees then, and September holds 18°C with 54mm.
The Hague is the better bet in spring: April is its driest month at 42mm, warming to 13°C, and it edges ahead of Bath then. High summer works too, with the sea at its warmest of 19°C in August, though July and August are its wettest months, near 84mm.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-08 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
