The verdict
Choose Bled if you want a small lake town of about 5,000 residents, sunnier summers and days built around walking rather than a city programme, and if you accept that eating and evening options are limited to what a town that size supports.
Choose Stuttgart if you want restaurants, museums and bars in quantity, more parkland and protected country for day trips, and more to keep children occupied.

Where they differ
Bled's edge is not in eating out or evenings. It gets more sunshine over the year, peaks warmer in July at 27°C, and sits in a country whose national daily estimate is €131 against Germany's €163.
Stuttgart has many times as many restaurants near the centre and a much wider range of kitchens, many times as many bars and clubs, and about three times as many notable places within walking distance. Protected land covers 51% of its surroundings against 20% at Bled, with far more park space close in.
Where they are alike
Neither is a swimming destination. Both have 3 beaches within reach, but neither gets a month of water at 21°C or more, so swimming is a warm-day extra rather than a reason to go.
Their years also run alike: highs of 1-27°C at Bled and 6-26°C at Stuttgart, summers peaking at much the same level, and a similar count of drier months. The national daily estimates for the two countries sit close as well.
Which traveller are you?
Anyone travelling for food and evenings should go to Stuttgart: many times as many restaurants near the centre, a much wider choice of kitchens, and many times as many bars and clubs, most of them close in.
Families are better served in Stuttgart too, with about twice as many attractions near the centre, far more park space, and 2 theme parks within reach against 1 near Bled.
If you want a quiet base and time outdoors, Bled is a town of under 5,000 people with more sunshine and warmer July days at 27°C, though Stuttgart has the larger share of protected country, 51% against 20%.
What the numbers don't tell you
The €131 and €163 daily figures are national price levels for restaurants and hotels, one per country, not measurements of Bled or Stuttgart. A small lake town that draws visitors in numbers can sit well above its national average, by more than the gap between the two countries. They guide you to Slovenia and Germany, not to which trip costs more.
Bled's strongest months are also its wettest, with August the peak of both at 139mm, so warm does not mean dry. Both places have beaches nearby, but neither gets a month of water at 21°C or more, so that is not a swimming season.
When should you go?
The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.
Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Bled: 1991-2020 normals, Klagenfurt (35.5 km from centre). Stuttgart: 1991-2020 normals, Stuttgart / Neckartal (2.8 km from centre).
Bled peaks from June to August at 25-27°C, but those are its wettest months, up to 139mm in August, and September still takes 114mm. May, at 21°C and 86mm, is the drier warm option; December sits at 1°C.
Stuttgart's window runs June to September and is drier throughout, ending with 49mm in September, which makes early autumn the easier bet of the two. Highs reach 26°C in July and August, and winter stays milder at 6°C.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-08 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
