Where they differ

Geneva has about twice as many restaurants near the centre and a much wider range of kitchens, plus somewhat more places to drink and many times as many nightclubs. It is also the greener trip: 27% of the land around it is protected against 9% around Verona, and about three times as much park space near the centre.

Verona's side of the ledger is price level: the national estimate behind it is €155 a day against €248 for Geneva's country, a country figure rather than a city one.

Where they are alike

Neither works as a swimming trip. Neither has a month with water at 21°C or more, so any beach time is a bonus rather than a plan.

Both are compact: the notable places sit within walking distance of the centre in each, and both have museums, Verona's clustered tightly around its centre. Both suit families too, Verona with more attractions near the centre, Geneva with about three times as much park space.

Which traveller are you?

If your days are organised around meals and evenings out, Geneva fits better: about twice as many restaurants near the centre, a much wider range of kitchens, and many times as many nightclubs, most of them central.

For heritage, Verona: 5 UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach against Geneva's 2, and museums packed tightly around the centre, though Geneva holds about twice as many museums overall.

Families can go either way. Verona has about twice as many attractions near the centre and 4 theme parks within reach against Geneva's 2; Geneva answers with roughly three times the central park space.

What the numbers don't tell you

The daily budget, €248 for Geneva's country and €155 for Verona's, is a national price level for restaurants and hotels, not a measurement of either city. A capital or a heavily visited city can sit far from its own national average, by more than the gap between these two figures, so treat it as a comparison of countries, not evidence about what either trip costs.

Warm months are not dry months in either: the heaviest rain in both falls in September and October, and Geneva has no month at 40mm or less. Verona's theme parks are within reach rather than in town.

When should you go?

The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.

Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Geneva: 1991-2020 normals, Geneve-Cointrin (5.7 km from centre). Verona: 1991-2020 normals, Verona / Villafranca (11.6 km from centre).

WorseBetter

Geneva is at its best from June to August, with highs of 24-27°C, though rain sits at 77-81mm through those months, so it never dries out. September still reaches 21°C.

Verona's window is wider: May and September both sit near 24-25°C, June at 28°C, July and August at 30°C for anyone who wants heat. Its winters are the drier of the two, 38-43mm in January and February, but September brings 85mm.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-08 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
