Where they differ

Nuremberg is the one for getting out of town: 42% of the land around it is protected against 4% around Venice, and there is roughly double the park space near the centre. It also has the wider range of kitchens and many more places to drink.

Venice concentrates far more notable places within walking distance of its centre, so a day covers more ground on foot. It also has 20 beaches nearby against Nuremberg's 6, and four months when the sea sits at 21°C or above.

Where they are alike

Families are served similarly in both. Venice has somewhat more tourist attractions close to the centre and 3 theme parks within reach against Nuremberg's 2, while Nuremberg answers with about double the park space near the middle of town.

Weather and cost also sit close. Both are coldest in January and warmest in high summer, and the national daily budget estimates behind them, €163 and €155, are not far apart.

Which traveller are you?

Travelling with children: both work. Venice puts more attractions near the centre and has 3 theme parks within reach against Nuremberg's 2, plus beaches; Nuremberg gives you more park space and easier green space nearby.

Walking a city for its history: Venice, clearly. The notable places cluster tightly around the centre, museums included, and 5 UNESCO-listed places sit within day-trip reach against Nuremberg's 1.

Eating out and going out: Nuremberg. It has a much wider range of kitchens, roughly twice as many places to drink and many times the nightclubs, most of them central.

What the numbers don't tell you

The daily budget figure is a national estimate for each country, covering restaurant and hotel price levels, not a measurement of either city. A heavily visited city can sit well above its own country's average, by more than the gap between the two figures, so it says nothing about which of these two trips will cost more.

Venice's beaches and warm sea belong to the same months as its highest heat, 30°C in July and August, and the beaches are counted as nearby rather than in the centre, and the warmest months are also among the wetter ones.

When should you go?

The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.

Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Nuremberg: 1991-2020 normals, Nuernberg (5.5 km from centre). Venice: 1991-2020 normals, Treviso / S. Angelo (26.1 km from centre).

WorseBetter

Nuremberg is best in high summer, June to August, with highs of 23-25°C; July is also its wettest at 77mm, so pack for showers. Its winter months are the weakest of its year by a wide margin.

Venice suits May to July, warmer at 24-30°C, and the sea passes 23°C by June for swimming. September stays warm but is the wettest month of its year at 106mm, and late autumn stays wet, so the shoulder is less reliable than the warmth suggests.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-08 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
