The verdict

Choose Pisa if the sea matters: it runs warmer through the year, with four months of sea at 21°C or more and the drier high summer of the two.

Choose Verona for children or for evenings out: far more attractions and park space near the centre, more theme parks within reach, and about twice as many places to drink.

Where they differ

Pisa is the one with swimming attached: four months of sea at 21°C or more, where Verona has none, and warmer days overall, 11-30°C against Verona's 7-30°C.

Verona is the stronger city for children and for evenings out: many more attractions near the centre, four theme parks within reach against Pisa's two, more park space, and roughly twice as many places to drink, with far more nightclubs, plus more restaurants near the centre and a wider range of kitchens.

Where they are alike

Museums and heritage are near enough level. Pisa has somewhat more museums; Verona has five UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach against Pisa's three, so either supports several days of indoor sightseeing.

Both sit in areas where 9% of the surrounding land is protected, and both keep their notable buildings within walking distance of the centre, Verona a little more so. Places to eat and drink cluster centrally in each rather than scattering.

Which traveller are you?

Travelling with children: Verona. Many more attractions near the centre, more park space, and four theme parks within reach against Pisa's two, most of it manageable on foot.

Wanting to swim: Pisa. Four months of sea at 21°C or more and warmer days across the year, which Verona cannot match despite counting two beaches nearby.

Out after dinner: Verona, with roughly twice as many places to drink and far more nightclubs, most of them central, plus more restaurants and a wider range of kitchens near the centre.

What the numbers don't tell you

The value comparison between these two carries no information. It is a national price level applied to both, identical by construction, and the €155 daily figure beside it is one national estimate rather than a measurement of Pisa or Verona. Neither is the cheaper trip on this evidence.

Beach counts mislead in both directions. Verona is credited with more beaches nearby yet has no month of sea at 21°C or more; Pisa has fewer, and its four months of warm sea fall in exactly the weeks the coast is busiest and its rainfall lowest.

When should you go?

The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.

Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Pisa: 1991-2020 normals, Pisa / S. Giusto (3.9 km from centre). Verona: 1991-2020 normals, Verona / Villafranca (11.6 km from centre).

WorseBetter

Pisa peaks in high summer: highs near 30°C, sea at 24-25°C, and its driest stretch at 32-35mm a month. Autumn is the catch, with rainfall climbing past 100mm in September and heavier still in October.

Verona is the better pick either side of that, in May and September, when days sit at 24-25°C and rain stays lighter than Pisa's autumn. Its winter is the trade-off, colder than Pisa's at 7°C in January.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-09 to 2026-09, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
