Where they differ
Sarajevo concentrates many times as many notable places within walking distance of its centre, so a day there can be done on foot. For families it also has many times as many tourist attractions near the centre and far more park space.
Sorrento has no equivalent walkable core, but it has the water: 78 beaches nearby against none in Sarajevo, and sea reaching 26°C in August after five months at 21°C or more. It also has 1 theme park within reach, where Sarajevo has none.
Where they are alike
Neither city is a base for wide-ranging excursions. Around Sorrento 7% of the land is protected and around Sarajevo 2%, and in both the appeal is close at hand rather than out in the surrounding country.
Heritage is modest in both: Sarajevo has more museums, tightly grouped, while Sorrento has more UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach. The shape of the year is shared too, warmest in August and coolest in January in each.

Anyone who wants to walk a city should take Sarajevo. Notable places, museums and attractions cluster tightly around the centre, and there are about twice as many places to drink and many more nightclubs than in Sorrento.
Families are better served in Sarajevo, with many more attractions and much more park space near the centre. Sorrento's case rests on 1 theme park and calm, warm sea in late summer.
What the numbers don't tell you
No daily cost figure exists for Sarajevo here, so the two cannot be compared on price at all. Only Sorrento carries one, at €155 a day. The value ranking rests on a different measure both cities have, so do not read it as a statement about what a trip to Sarajevo costs.
Sorrento's driest and warmest months are also its peak season, so the coast is at its most usable exactly when most people are there, and a town of 15,400 absorbs that differently from a city of 276,000. Sarajevo's strengths are measured near the centre; beyond it, only 2% of the land is protected.

Sorrento's season runs longer, May to October, with July and August at 31°C, sea at 25-26°C and almost no rain, 17-18mm. November is the month to avoid, at 159mm, and its winters stay mild.
