Where they differ
Sorrento is the coastal trip. It has 78 beaches nearby against Verona's 2, and five months of sea at 21°C or more where Verona has none. It also runs warmer across the year, with daytime highs of 13-31°C against Verona's 7-30°C.
Verona is the one to walk. Many more notable places sit within walking distance of the centre, along with far more tourist attractions and park space close in, and 4 theme parks are within reach against Sorrento's 1, which makes days with children easier to fill.
Where they are alike
Summer feels much the same in both. Each peaks around 30-31°C, each is at its coolest in January, and both get a long annual run of sunshine.

What the numbers don't tell you
The value figure is a national price level, identical for both by construction, so the value comparison between these two carries no information about which costs less. Treat the €155 daily budget as one estimate for the country rather than a measurement of either city.
A strong beach showing is also a seasonal one. Sorrento's advantage applies only in the months when the sea is above 21°C, and those are exactly the months when a town of 15,400 people takes the most visitors. Outside them the coast turns wet, with 159mm in November, while Verona's indoor attractions hold up year round.

Verona is the better pick in May and June, when highs reach 24-28°C without high-summer heat. September stays warm but is its wettest month at 85mm, and winter days barely reach 7°C, which makes it an indoor trip.
