Where they differ
Innsbruck leads on getting out of town: 31% of the land around it is protected against 7% around Lucerne, and there is more park space near the centre. It also packs about twice as many notable places into walking distance, along with somewhat more museums, and those museums sit tightly around the middle of town.
Lucerne's counterweight is the water, with 16 beaches nearby against Innsbruck's 10, though neither offers sea swimming. The national price levels differ too, €248 a day for Switzerland against €160 for Austria.
