Where they differ
Mostar is the warmer city, with daytime highs of 9-33°C against Sofia's 4-28°C, and 7 beaches nearby where Sofia has none.
Sofia has many times as many restaurants near the centre and a wider range of kitchens, plus many times as many bars and clubs, most of them close in. It also has more country to walk into: 12% of the land around it is protected against 6% around Mostar, far more park space near the centre, and about twice as many attractions of the sort families use.
Where they are alike

Sofia's window is high summer. July and August sit at 28°C with 56-64mm of rain, and the shoulder stays comfortable and drier. Winter is genuinely cold, but it is also the driest stretch either city offers.
