The verdict

Choose Rovinj if the point of the trip is swimming: 55 beaches nearby and a sea warm enough from June to September, in a small town where the evenings are quiet and everything is close.

Choose Turin if you want museums, a wide range of restaurants and plenty of bars within walking distance of the centre, with parks and protected land available for day trips.

Where they differ

Rovinj's advantage is the water: 55 beaches nearby against Turin's 1, and four months with the sea at 21°C or more, which Turin has none of. It also has 3 theme parks within reach where Turin has none.

Turin has many times as many restaurants near the centre and a wider range of kitchens, many times as many museums, and 4 UNESCO-listed places within day-trip reach against Rovinj's 1. Drinking spots and clubs are far more numerous, and far more notable places sit within walking distance.

Where they are alike

Weather is where the two line up most closely. Both reach 29°C at the height of summer in July and both are at their coldest in January, and neither has a dry month: rainfall stays above 40mm in every month of the year in both.

Cost is the other point of contact. The national price levels behind the two countries sit close together, so the figures do not separate them, and the decision rests on what you want from the trip rather than on what it costs.

Which traveller are you?

If you are travelling to swim, Rovinj is the only option here: 55 beaches nearby, a sea above 21°C for four months of summer, and a compact town you can cross on foot.

A trip built on museums, eating out and late bars points to Turin, where the range of kitchens is much wider, the museums many times more numerous, and much of it sits within walking distance.

Families split. Rovinj has 3 theme parks within reach and the beaches to go with them; Turin has far more attractions and park space near the centre, which matters when it rains.

What the numbers don't tell you

The daily budget figures, €138 for Croatia and €155 for Italy, are national price levels for restaurants and hotels, not measurements of either city. A coastal town in high season and a large city can each sit far from their country's average, so that gap says nothing about which trip costs more.

No weather station near Turin records sunshine hours, so that side of the weather comparison is unmeasured and its monthly picture rests on temperature and rainfall alone. Rovinj's beach advantage also lands in the two months a town of 13,000 is busiest, and its warmest sea comes with the wettest stretch of the year.

When should you go?

The figures behind each month. Each row is shaded against that destination's own year, so the deepest cell is its best month for that measure and the palest its weakest. Shades are not comparable between the two rows.

No sunshine record

Temperature and rainfall are thirty-year climate normals, averaged over the years shown. Rovinj: 1991-2020 normals, Trieste (63.7 km from centre). Turin: 1991-2020 normals, Torino / Caselle (15.4 km from centre).

WorseBetter

Rovinj is the better pick from June to September, when highs run 24-29°C and the sea sits at 22-26°C. July is the driest of that run at 61mm, while September turns wet at 114mm, so the warmest water comes with rain.

Turin's summer is nearly as warm and similarly dry at its peak, but its edge is the cooler half of the year: February and December stay under 55mm, with highs of 8-9°C, which suits indoor days at the time Rovinj is at its wettest.

The busiest departure cities for these two, with a place kept for each other part of the world. Busiest means arriving passengers where an official count exists, and where none does, the number of non-stop services flown: official route statistics are published by the European reporting countries and by nobody else, so a table ranked on them alone would offer a reader in New York or Tokyo ten European cities. Flying times are estimated from the distance between airports, and every row is a city flown non-stop to both. Where the typical offer connects anyway, the stops are shown. Under each figure is the airport the flight lands at and how far that is from the centre, because the nearest airport is not always the one a route is flown to. Where both columns name the same airport it is one flight, and the difference between the two is the distance printed beside it. Typical return fares for 2026-08 to 2026-10, cached market data up to 7 days old. The figure is the middle half of the offers found, so a single price means they agreed and a range means they did not; for a typical route that middle half spans about a quarter of the median, and for the least settled routes rather more than the median itself.
